Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has established himself as one of American’s most famous Chefs and Restaurateurs. Beginning his love of food in his early years in France, Vongerichten trained and worked in France, and Asia. It was during his time working in Asia that he embraced and developed a passion for Eastern flavor. To this day, he forgoes traditional cream and meat stock based sauces for those made from vegetable and fruit juices, and herbal combinations that feature more intense flavors such as those he experienced in Asia.
ABC Kitchen embodies the farm to table culinary movement and features a seasonally changing menu that serves only the freshest local and organic ingredients. Located in Union Square, ABC Kitchen is a large restaurant with a rustic and casual aesthetic that upon arrival, immediately makes you feel comfortable. From the wooden beams, hanging lighting, bright white tables, and cement columns, the main dining room feels rustic yet has a modern touch. The menu itself is a la carte with plenty of options, making it difficult to decide what to order. ABC Kitchen offers multiple salads, and to be honest, you cannot go wrong with any of them. From the Delicata Squash and Escarole Salad with Pumpkin Seed Dressing, to the Kale Salad with Lemon, Chiles, and Mint, your palate and eyes will be delighted. Each salad tastes fresh, has a punch of mixed flavors, and the mixture of color and texture is eye catching as well. For your main course, you can choose from fresh made pizzas, pastas, meat, or fish dishes; or maybe order a few of each to sample! You can begin with a simple Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil Whole Wheat Pizza to share, and then the Fried Organic Chicken is a highly recommended entrée. Made with more of a Tempura style breading, this dish is paired with rainbow swiss chard and topped with a hot sauce butter. The chicken is perfectly cooked and tender, and the hot sauce butter offers just the right amount of kick to spice up the dish. ABC Kitchen features a grand dessert menu that will make your head spin. From the classic Chocolate Cake with Ganache and Marshmallow Icing, to the Apple Tart Tatin with Toasted Hazelnut Ice Cream and Apple Cider Caramel, there is a dessert option to please everyone.
