James Beard Award winning and Michelin Star Chef, Gabriel Kreuther made a name for himself working in Michelin Star restaurants throughout Germany, France, and Switzerland before coming to the United States and working as Executive Chef at Atelier and The Modern. Chef Gabriel is trained in classic French techniques and incorporates his training along with his Alsatian (German) heritage into his cooking at his namesake restaurant.
Gabriel Kreuther opened his namesake restaurant in Midtown Manhattan in 2015. The restaurant is a tribute to his heritage both in his culinary creations but also in the décor and experience of the restaurant itself. The reclaimed wood beams, platinum ceiling, crystals, hand painted wall décor, handmade ceramics, and cream furniture creates a luxurious yet approachable ambience. The service is all one would expect from a two Michelin Star restaurant; attentive yet not overbearing. Guests can choose between the Heritage Tasting Menu and the Chef’s Carte Blanche Menu, both of which come with optional wine pairings. The dishes change seasonally on both menus and are announced to the table upon arrival. Many guests are pleasantly surprised to learn that they are asked if there are any particular items that do not appeal to them or any other dishes that they would prefer, thus being able to cater the experience to their needs and desired flavors. No matter the menu choice, one can expect classic Alsatian, savory flavors, and unexpected plating with texture and skilled knifework. Although the courses are never guaranteed, Kreuther’s classic Foie Gras studded with Duck Prosciutto is a clear winner and always delicious. One can also expect to find numerous Amuse Bouche throughout the dinner to help cleanse the palate, and many dishes incorporate raw fish such as the famous Sturgeon and Sauerkraut Tart as homage to Kreuther’s heritage. Make sure to save room for dessert; the signature Chocolate Bar with Raspberry sauce is a delightful way to end the evening.
