Chef: Abram Bissell
A native of the Florida Keys, Abram Bissell began his pursuit of the culinary arts from a very early age while helping in his Aunt’s café. He pursued his culinary education at the New England Culinary Institute and later held positions at some of the most famous restaurants like L’Espalier and Eleven Madison Park. The first dish Bissell ever cooked was Conch Fritters, which still make it onto his menus to this day, only he now uses Lobster. He prides himself on creating unexpectedly playful dishes that highlight only the best seasonal ingredients available.
Opened in 2005, The Modern is attached to the Museum of Modern Art and overlooks the Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. The atmosphere is very modern, polished, and clean and the ambiance is very bright, open, and inviting. The service at The Modern is impeccable and provides more evidence that you are about to enjoy an incredible dining experience. Dinner at The Modern offers a six-course Tasting Menu that changes seasonally based upon the best ingredients available. The Eggs on Eggs on Eggs dish is a delightful take on eggs three ways accompanied by brioche which provides a lovely texture combination. The Foie Gras poached in Duck Broth is decadent and out of this world. The Green Tomato Sorbet with Mozzarella Cream is the perfect palate cleanser with flavors that are both fresh and tart. Finally, the evening finishes with a Chocolate Ganache dish that tastes just as delicious as its presentation alludes to. All the dishes on this tasting menu are made to perfection and will be a treat for any palate. For those looking for an a la carte experience, you can elect to dine at The Bar Room which allows guests to walk in first come first serve and eat from a menu of select a la carte dishes and spirits. The Scallops served with a Pesto Sauce and the Black Truffle Pasta are favorites from other diners, as they are cooked to perfection allowing the main ingredients to truly shine through. For those guests who prefer a wine pairing, take full advantage of the very knowledgeable sommelier at The Modern, who will make the best wine suggestion for each dish you elect to indulge in.
