Born in Cairo, Egypt and raised in Washington, Celebrity Chef, Michael Mina believes that there are four elements that all cooking should revolve around; acidity, sweetness, spice, and fat. When these elements can play off one another, they create what Mina calls a “dish that screams bold”. Michael Mina feels that his job is to make food come alive for everyone who dines in his restaurants, and by utilizing these four key elements, he does just that.
Since opening its doors on Union Square in 2014, Michael Mina CA has been serving up well-balanced dishes focused around Mina’s for key elements and his Middle Eastern heritage. Michael Mina CA offers a Six Course Tasting Menu which allows guests to select from three options for each course. This Tasting Menu is referred to as a ‘spice journey’, as Mina incorporates bold, traditional spices throughout each course. The dining experience begins with a choice between Live Sea Scallop Crudo, Tomato Borek, and Tartare of Ahi Tuna, and continues with options such as; Glazed Egyptian Mango, Hand Cut Tajarin, Black Sea Bass, Spiced Squab, and Caramel Tofah. For those guests who prefer it, Michael Mina CA offers a Six Course Vegetarian Tasting Menu which offers Grilled Cauliflower and Romanesco, Smoked Fairytale Eggplant, Hand Cut Tajarin, Tomato Borek, Tenbrink Delicata Squash, and Milk Chocolate. Guests can also elect to add a Wine Pairing or Reserve Wine Pairing to either menu option for an additional fee. No matter which menu is chosen, guests of Michael Mina CA can expect to be wowed by the complexity and balance of each course and will leave wondering what was in each dish that made it so unforgettable.
